A PENARTH man has been jailed after defrauding his employer to repay the money he had stolen from a company he had previously worked for.

Mayur Gaglani, 48, has also been ordered to pay back £78,000 to the power systems consultancy firm PSE 2 following his admission of his offence.

A father of two, he is believed to have stolen £250,000 from the first company. He managed to get a job in PES in 2017.

To pay off the stolen money from the first company, he defrauded PSE 2 of £69,544 between June and August last year by using false invoices and the company’s credit card, according to a WalesOnline report.

Cardiff Crown Court heard that PSE 2 director Matthew Porter loaned Gaglani £82,000 to clear his debt believing the worker was in a civil dispute with his former employer.

Prosecutor Ieuan Bennett said: “The invoices were then paid out via the company but in fact, the company was not going to pay genuine suppliers but it was going to the defendant’s bank account.”

The offence was discovered during Galgani’s family vacation to the US when he received more than £5,000 from the company’s funds.

South Wales Police arrested him in November last year, leading to his prosecution.

The court has sentenced him to 20 months of imprisonment, half of which is to be served in custody.
