In a heartbreaking turn of events, two Indian-origin brothers, identified as Abhijeet Abhijeet (26) and Robin Gartan (27) have been arrested by Australian authorities in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 22-year-old MTech student from India. The incident, stemming from a dispute at a residence in Melbourne’s southeast, has shocked and saddened the community.

The altercation, which unfolded during a disagreement reportedly related to rent among Indian students, resulted in the tragic death of the victim, Navjeet, and injuries to another individual. According to Navjeet’s uncle, Yashvir, the young student had accompanied a friend to the residence to retrieve belongings when the confrontation escalated, leading to the fatal stabbing.

Both Navjeet and the alleged assailants hailed from Karnal, as revealed by Yashvir, further underscoring the heartbreaking nature of the incident. Navjeet’s friend, who was also present during the altercation, sustained injuries as well.

After being on the run since the incident, the brothers were apprehended in the New South Wales country town of Goulburn. They are currently awaiting extradition to Victoria, where they will face charges in Melbourne Magistrates Court.

Detective Inspector Dean Thomas has confirmed that authorities believe the brothers resided at the Ormond home where the tragic altercation occurred, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
