Donald Trump is considering Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk as a potential policy adviser if he wins the upcoming November election, according to the Wall Street Journal. Sources reveal that the two have discussed ways for Musk to have “formal input and influence” over economic and border security policies.
Earlier this year, Musk and Trump met in Florida, where Musk declared that he would not donate money to either Trump or Joe Biden. Instead, he intends to use his influence to rally support against Biden among key business leaders.
Musk informed Trump about his campaign to persuade U.S. business leaders not to support Biden, who is seeking a second term. Additionally, Musk has discussed this strategy with billionaire investor Nelson Peltz and is considering funding a “data-driven project to prevent voter fraud.”
Brian Hughes, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, stated that only Trump will decide what roles individuals will play in his presidency.
During their March meeting, Musk reiterated that he would not financially support either Trump or Biden but would use his influence to galvanize support against Biden.
Musk’s views have aligned with the Republican Party on several issues, including unsubstantiated claims that Joe Biden is intentionally allowing migrants to cross the U.S.-Mexico border.
Musk has publicly criticized Biden’s policies on immigration, electric vehicles, and tariffs but has yet to formally endorse a candidate for the November election.
While Trump has expressed uncertainty about Musk’s support, Musk reinstated Trump’s account on X (formerly Twitter) after acquiring the platform, reversing the ban imposed following the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
In response, Trump launched his own social media platform, Truth Social, under the Trump Media and Technology Group Corp.
