GROWING up in Ahmedabad, Dhartti Bhatt developed a passion for performing after watching popular actress Preity Zinta in films and advertisements. This early influence ignited an acting passion, which has led her towards a sparkling decade-long career delivering bright performances in popular Indian drama serials.

After starring in successful serials like Love Marriage Ya Arranged Marriage, Mahisagar, Kya Haal, Mr Paanchal? and Woh Toh Hai Albelaa, she is currently delighting audiences in popular drama Purnima.

Eastern Eye caught up with the actress to find out more about her interesting journey, latest show and inspirations.

Could you tell us a little about how Preity Zinta influenced you?

Since childhood, I used to watch her a lot and felt a strong connection, as if I could also perform, act and look like her. I adorned every corner of my house with her pictures. My room in particular was a shrine to my dream of being like Preity Zinta. It is because of her influence that I decided to pursue acting.

Which of the characters has been the closest to your heart?

I think my favourite character would be Pratibha from Kya Haal Mr Panchaal? and Vatsala, who I am currently playing in Purnima. Also, Rashmi from Woh Toh Albelaa. These three characters remain very close to my heart.

Which project challenged you the most?

The most challenging project was my recent show, Woh Toh Hai Albelaa. I had to portray someone who commits the murder of her elder sister due to her craving for love and attention from others. It was a very tricky character because I had to convey my character’s hatred for her sister while not revealing my true intentions to audiences. It was a character with a lot of emotional complexity. I had to portray a depressed girl, who is also determined to get what she wants. There were also high expectations from me and the TV channel, so that character was demanding, in terms of acting.

What made you want to take on the challenge of taking over a character played by someone else in Woh Toh Hai Albelaa?

When I was offered Woh Toh Hai Albelaa, I initially had some doubts about whether I could meet their expectations. However, I have always been driven to do something different, new and requiring hard work, which I enjoy. That is why I decided to take on that character.

Tell us about your current show?

I play Vatsala in Purnima, which is a unique love story. It’s not exactly a typical love triangle but rather revolves around a married couple. The twist comes when the hero and I develop feelings for each other, even though he has a wife and two children. We are drawn to each other despite being aware of his family situation. This show explores the complexities of being involved with a married person and how we navigate this unconventional relationship.

What is the plan going forward and do you have a dream role?

I usually go with the flow and choose characters that resonate with me in various stories. So far, I haven’t identified a particular dream role.

You’re a versatile actress, but which genre are you most comfortable in?

I am very comfortable with playing negative roles. I really enjoy doing them.dhartti bhatt 4

Could you tell us something not many people know about you?

Many people don’t know that I am kind-hearted because I have played negative roles. People tend to think I am really like those characters, but that’s not the case. When I become comfortable with someone, I never let go of them. If I have formed a friendship with someone or had a good conversation with them, I will never forget it for a lifetime. If someone has done something for me, no matter how small, I cherish it deeply.

 Tell us more about that?

Even if someone brings me a single rose or does a small favour, it makes me very happy. I don’t have high expectations; it’s the little things that bring me joy. If someone does something for me or if there’s a relationship or friendship, I am committed to it for life. This has become a habit I have developed over time.

If you weren’t an actress, what job would you have done?

I have a great passion for flying and travelling in aeroplanes. If I weren’t an actress, I would definitely have pursued a career as a pilot.

How do you feel being in front of the camera?

I love the camera. Being in front of the camera is something I truly enjoy. I believe most actors and actresses feel the same way. The camera is like our deity; it’s our love. Whenever I step in front of the camera, there’s a spark that ignites within me. So, yes, I definitely have a deep affection for the camera.

What inspires you?

I believe that in whatever I do, my main desire is to see my mother happy. I know that witnessing my success and happiness always brings joy to her. The sight of my mom’s happiness motivates me to strive for greater heights and my brother’s cheerful support serves as an inspiration for me to continue working hard. So, indeed, my family, especially my mom and brother, are a significant source of inspiration in my life.
