Gynaecologist Dr Anahita Pandole has undergone pelvic reconstruction surgery at a hospital in Mumbai on Thursday (15), media reports said.

According to the reports, the condition of her husband Darius is stable.

The couple sustained severe injuries in a car crash earlier this month that killed former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry and KPMG’s Jehangir Pandole.

Dr Tarang Gianchandani, CEO, Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospita, where she is under treatment, said that Dr Pandole was operated on by a team of experts. He added that opinions were taken from doctors from the US, UK and Europe.

“Our team that conducted the surgery includes Dr Vaibhav Bagaria, Director, Department of Orthopaedics, Dr Dilip Tanna, Mentor Orthopedics, Dr Darius Soonawala, Consultant Orthopedics and senior anesthetist Dr Daisy along with trained nurses and technicians,” said Dr Gianchandani.

“With team of 20 plus multi-disciplinary experts, we have been monitoring the condition of Dr Anahita closely for the last 11 days before planning any surgical intervention. Pelvic surgery was concluded today morning with precise techniques, clinical skills and modern technologies. This will enable to achieve the recovery of the injuries caused post the traumatic accident.”

It was reported that Dr Peter V Giannoudis, chairman with Academic Department of Trauma & Orthopedics Surgery at University of Leeds, UK, reached in Mumbai to provide expert advice.

The couple were shifted from Rainbow Hospital in Gujarat’s Vapi after the accident.

Dr Pandole is associated with hospitals like Jaslok, Breach Candy, Masina and BD Petit Parsee General Hospital.

Meanwhile, a Mercedes team of experts from Hong Kong on Tuesday (13) reached the Mercedes showroom in Thane for investigation and inspection of the car after the tragic incident. The team will submit a report to the Mercedes Benz company.

According to Palghar Police, Mistry was travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai when his car hit the divider.

Earlier, the car manufacturer said that the team would provide clarifications to the officials wherever required and will cooperate.

The remarks came after the Police asked the car manufacturer company why the airbags in the ill-fated SUV did not open at the time of the accident.

“As a responsible brand respecting customer privacy, our team is cooperating with the authorities where possible, and we will provide any clarifications to them directly as required. We will continue our ongoing efforts to increase road safety awareness as a responsible manufacturer while equipping our vehicles with the latest safety features and technologies,” said a statement from Mercedes-Benz India.
