Tragic car crash claims lives of three Indian-American students in Georgia

Five Indian-American teenagers, all 18 years old, met a tragic fate in a car crash in Alpharetta, Georgia. The accident occurred on May 14, sending shockwaves through their communities at Alpharetta High School and the University of Georgia.

The driver, identified as Rithwak Somepalli, a student at Georgia State University, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and crash into a tree line. The impact of the crash resulted in the deaths of three passengers: Aryan Joshi, a senior at Alpharetta High School, and Sriya Avasarala and Anvi Sharma, both first-year students at the University of Georgia.

Anvi Sharma, who was seated in the rear of the vehicle, initially survived the crash but later succumbed to her injuries at North Fulton Hospital. Mohammed Liyakath, another senior at Alpharetta High School, sustained injuries in the accident.

Speeding is believed to be the primary factor contributing to the fatal crash, according to authorities from the Alpharetta Police Department. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, aiming to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The loss of these vibrant young individuals has deeply affected their respective communities. Aryan Joshi was not only a dedicated student but also an active member of the school’s cricket team, leaving behind cherished memories among his peers.

Sriya Avasarala’s involvement in the UGA Shikaari dance team showcased her passion for the arts, while Anvi Sharma’s contributions to the UGA Kalakaar a cappella group highlighted her musical talent.
