In a noteworthy gesture of inclusivity and cultural appreciation, the Home Secretary of the United Kingdom, James Cleverly MP, recently played host to a community Iftar at the iconic 10 Downing Street in Westminster.

The event, held on Tuesday, March 27th, 2024, welcomed 30 distinguished Muslims from various corners of the nation, offering them a unique opportunity to breakfast and share their experiences with the Home Secretary himself.

The initiative, spearheaded by the government, received invaluable support from the Conservative Muslim Forum (CMF), with CMF Chairman Hashim Bhatti at the forefront of its organisation. Bhatti, who also orchestrated last year’s reception and the Conservative Party’s preceding iftar events, emphasised the significance of bringing together British Muslims from diverse backgrounds under one roof.

The guest list comprised a diverse array of individuals, including young people from the National Citizen Service (NCS), entrepreneurs, professionals, and social activists from across the Muslim community in the UK.

Attendees were treated to insightful remarks from the Home Secretary before indulging in a sumptuous seated meal within the esteemed State Rooms of 10 Downing Street. Unlike the previous year’s buffet-style affair, this year’s gathering took on a more intimate ambience, fostering meaningful conversations and connections among guests.

Reflecting on the event’s importance, Hashim Bhatti remarked, “This was an initiative I pioneered last year, and I am grateful that both No. 10 and the Home Secretary did all they could to make it happen again. It was a great way to bring together British Muslims from all walks of life to discuss matters important to the community, especially given the events in the Middle East. I am glad the Home Secretary took time to listen to our concerns and frustrations.”

Naveed Asghar Rana, CMF Scotland Chairman, echoed similar sentiments, underscoring the honour of supporting the second Iftar at the Prime Minister’s residence and expressing anticipation for future collaborations with the government on community-related matters.

The guest list comprised a diverse array of individuals, including young people from the National Citizen Service (NCS), entrepreneurs, professionals, and social activists from across the Muslim community in the UK. Notably, the event also spotlighted the positive contributions of women within the community.

Adding a flavorful touch to the evening were the culinary delights provided by Spice Village and Heriots cakes, further enhancing the memorable occasion.

Overall, the Community Iftar Reception at 10 Downing Street served as a testament to the government’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and dialogue within the diverse tapestry of British society. By providing a platform for meaningful engagement, the event underscored the importance of unity and understanding in building a stronger, more cohesive community.
