Award-winning actor Dev Patel says that he is not interested in taking over the part of James Bond in the next installment of the iconic film franchise.
The makers have been trying to cast an actor in the role of the globally popular British spy agent for a long time. However, they are yet to zero in on any name.
Such actors as Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are reportedly in the race, and many fans have also been campaigning for Patel to join the race. However, the Slumdog Millionaire actor seems not at all interested.
Talking to a publication, Patel said that he would just make fun of himself and would only turn the action film into a comedy.
The actor expressed that Idris Elba would be ideal for the role. “My vote is for Idris on that one. I mean, you don’t want me blasting through a door with a Walther PPK to try to save you. I’ll do the comedy version with Armando [Iannucci]. I just think the best person for the role is what it comes down to,” he said.
The actor further added, “I also don’t want to be gifted a role, just because of the tokenistic nature of me being a garnish — ‘Let’s sprinkle some diversity into this!’ That doesn’t make me feel good either. If it works for the story, and I feel like I can bring some truth out of this role or embody it well, then that’s what it should come down to.”
