On Wednesday, the International Council (ICC) launched the official anthem of World Cup 2023 which begins in India on October 5. Called ‘Dil Jashn Bole,’ the anthem features Bollywood star Ranveer Singh. Successful Bollywood composer Pritam composed the music, while Dhanashree Verma, choreographer and wife to India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, featured in the anthem.

The three-minute and 22-second anthem takes viewers on an adventurous journey through India aboard the ‘One Day Express.’

The reception of the anthem on social media, however, was less than enthusiastic.

In contrast to the 2011 and 2015 editions’ anthems, the ICC received an extensive critique, accused of failing to resonate with cricket fans’ enthusiasm.

Disheartened fans criticized it, lamenting that it failed to capture the essence and adrenaline of the sport, unlike the anthems of previous editions.

One such memorable anthem was the 2011 World Cup’s “De Ghumake,” composed by the illustrious Shankar Mahadevan.

India’s cricket journey in the ODI World Cup has witnessed two historic moments. Kapil Dev led India to their inaugural ODI World Cup triumph in 1983, followed by a long-awaited victory under the leadership of MS Dhoni in 2011. In between, India clinched another World Cup in 2007, though in the T20 format.
