The thunderous success of Baahubali: The Beginning (2015), Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017), and RRR (2022), has established SS Rajamouli as one of the most successful Indian filmmakers in the world. Apart from setting the box office on fire in India, all these aforementioned films performed extremely well overseas also.

In his interview with an Indian publication, Rajamouli spoke about how he is always drawn to tell stories that celebrate and portray the richness of Indian culture. “I want to make them bigger, bigger, and better. And of course, I want to tell Indian stories to the rest of the world.”

He further said that making a film on the Indian epic Mahabharata has been his dream for a long time now. “The Mahabharata has been my long, long, long dream project, but it will take a long time for me to step into that ocean. Before I step into Mahabharata, I want to make maybe three or four films,” he said.

Sharing his opinion on the constant comparison between South and Bollywood films, the visionary filmmaker said that while the South Indian film industry continued to cater to the masses, Bollywood did not.

“They stopped catering to the masses. But there were a lot of people who wanted that massive action film, hardcore raw emotions kind-of thing. So, what happened is south films started dubbing once social media and YouTube came in and people started watching those films,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Rajamouli is gearing up to commence work on his next project, which features Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu in the lead role. Written by KV Vijayendra Prasad, the high-profile film is expected to start rolling in 2023.

Comparing the untitled project to Academy Award-winning films James Bond and Indiana Jones, the filmmaker had earlier said, “My next film with Mahesh Babu will be a globetrotting action adventure. It’s going to be a kind of James Bond or Indiana Jones film with Indian roots.”
